How the modal analysis with contact is carried out.
Description (Answer)
In modal analysis, contact tyings are detected as usual and they are applied to the stiffness and mass matrices. This is similar to how other MPC (servo-links, etc) and SPC (fixed boundary conditions) are applied.
The eigen value calculations are then made with the tied matrices and the tied eigen-vectors and eigenvalues are calculated. Abstract (Question)
How touching contact works in a modal analysis. Touching Contact Model shows different results from Glue Contact Model and No Contact Model. If Touching Contact Model acts like Glue Contact Model, the results have to be same. Or if Touching Contact Model acts like No Contact Model, the results have to be also same. But three models show all different results.
Description (Answer)
The difference among the 3 models are that glued contact has both normal and tangential links between two bodies, touching contact has only normal link between two bodies, and no contact model doesn't have any link between two bodies. Since normal modes analysis is actually a linear analysis, the initial contact status is kept in the modal analysis. The nonlinear nature of touching contact cannot be take into account in a modal analysis. It is necessary to setup initial contact table in glued contact case.
