Simulation of Failure and Crack Propagation
Date and Time: April 16th, 2013 at 8:30 AM Eastern or 1:30 PM Eastern
Duration: 45 minutes
Presented by: Per Nordlund, Development Engineer Bio: Per received his Ph.D. in Solid Mechanics from the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), Stockholm, Sweden. He worked with nonlinear simulations for many years prior to joining the development team at MSC Software. At MSC, his work is focused on mainly nonlinear simulations, in various areas like failure analysis, fracture mechanics, and parallel processing. About this Webinar!
Designing safe products requires the knowledge of failure mechanisms of the materials used, and understanding of contributing factors like the loads that could initiate a crack. It is also of high interest to know the location of initial failure, rate of growth under expected loading conditions and performance of the damaged structure, in order to avoid catastrophic failures. The damage and failure mechanisms vary with type of materials used, so simulation solutions used should accommodate these complexities. For example, most metal experience ductile failure, while composites could fail due delamination, fiber pull out, initiation and growth of crack through the matrix. This presentation provides an overview of the simulation solutions from MSC Software to address these difficult problems. Join this webinar to learn about: - Failure modeling in Marc;
- How to model crack initiation and growth;
- How to get better simulation results.
Following the webinar, you will be able to join in a live Q&A to have your specific questions answered.
