Iterative linear equation solver
Products: ABAQUS/Standard ABAQUS/CAE
Benefits: The iterative solver can be more efficient than the direct sparse solver for some classes of problems.
Description: For some very large blocky models, typically having several million degrees of freedom, the iterative solver can be faster than the direct sparse solver. The iterative solver is recommended only if the model is well conditioned; i.e., it contains relatively homogeneous material properties, well-shaped solid elements, and small amounts of contact and/or constraint equations. The iterative solver can be used with linear and nonlinear static and steady-state heat transfer procedures with symmetric stiffness matrices. The direct sparse solver is recommended in all other cases. In general, the memory use for the iterative solver will be much larger than the direct solver, although the disk storage requirements will be much smaller. |
