对2D的轴对称SOLID ELEMENTS， Area weighted主要用于爆炸计算，而Volume weighted主要用于结构计算。

对2D的轴对称SHELL ELEMENTS，都必须用Volume weighted。

关于用法可以查看关键字手册
ls-dyna 970手册上有两处写到关于area weighted和volume weighted，一处是在*CONTROL_SHELL的THEORY，另一处在*SECTION_SHELL的ELFORM，都是14为area weigthed, 15为volume weighted。
*CONTROL_SHELL的THEORY中说明写道：For the 2D axisymmetric solid elements, high explosive applications work best with the area weighted approach and structural applications work best with the volume weighted approach. The volume weighted approach can lead to problems along the axis of symmetry under very large deformations. Often the symmetry condition is not obeyed, and the elements will kink along the axis. The volume weighted approach must be used if 2D shell elements are used in mesh.
