Evolution of iSIGHTDr. Siu S. Tong, founder and President of Engineous Software, Inc., first conceived the generic software shell concept during his Ph.D. studies at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), in 1979-1983. Dr. Tong joined General Electric Company (GE) in 1982 to implement this vision. He formed and managed a staff to produce the first generation technology, Engineous, which was subsequently customized and enhanced over a ten-year period at GE with over $10 million in corporate and government funding. In 1987, Dr. Tong attracted Dr. David J. Powell, co-founder of Engineous Software Inc., to the team to manage the development effort of Engineous, and to incorporate his industry-renowned engineering optimization expertise into the firstgeneration
Engineous software.
iSIGHT Results
The technology used in iSIGHT has been successfully implemented at eight of the 13 business units of GE, including GE Aircraft Engine, GE Industrial and Power Systems, GE/MM Aerospace, GE Transformers, GE Lighting, GE Canada, GE Motors, and GE Transportation. Engineous has demonstrated tens of millions of dollars in documented engineering design and manufacturing cost savings to the corporation. Through GE
