Engineous Software Acquires Synaps
The Combination Creates More Robust Offering to Expanded Set of Global Customers
CARY, N.C., February 3, 2004 -- Engineous Software, Inc. today announced that it has acquired Synaps, Inc., an Atlanta-based design optimization software and services company. The acquisition will allow Engineous to expand its business, especially in the aerospace market, an area where Synaps has made strong inroads.

Synaps will be joining the leading provider of process integration and design optimization (PIDO) solutions, as Engineous currently holds more than 50% market share in North America, and a significantly higher share in Asia. Key technology and features from Synaps' Epogy product will be merged with Engineous' iSIGHT. Dr. Alex Van der Velden, founder, President & CEO of Synaps remarked, "We believe that by merging our resources and complementary technologies, our customers will be the beneficiaries of better PIDO solutions that can be supported enterprise and world-wide. Dr. Van der Velden and his executive team will play key roles in Engineous. Dr. Van der Velden will assume the position of Director of the Engineering Group to ensure- that Engineous' products address the needs of the engineering community to solve real world problems. "This is a great role for Alex. With his years of leading-edge design experience and numerous international awards for design and innovation, Alex is truly an 'engineer's engineer,'" said Ms. Wylie. Dr. David Kokan, Synaps Vice President of Engineering, will assume the role of Lead Engineering Developer for Epogy and iSIGHT, while Mr. David Vaughn, Synaps Vice President of Product Management will take the lead role in integrating and supporting the Synaps customer base.
