April 9, 2002 Newsletter: As the Space Tethers TC activity continues to increase, a goal of this TC will be to email a newsletter to the Space Tether TC mailing list on an every other month basis informing subscribers of tether related activities including upcoming conferences, presentations, papers, and other tether related news. Space Tether TC News: By the emailing of the next newsletter (June 1), the Space Tethers TC website will be active. The web site will be accessed through the AIAA homepage and include newsletter and meeting minutes archives, TC member list, tether related links, tether history, Space Tether Paper of the Year Award, and a tether activity summary calendar. On March 20 and 21, Andrew Santangelo and Robert Hoyt of the Space Tether TC attended the AIAA Congressional Visits Day. Congressional Visits Day is an annual event sponsored by AIAA that serves to educate Congressional representatives and staff on the technical and public policy issues affecting the aerospace community, and provides AIAA members with an opportunity to directly impact the decision-making process. The CVD program is designed to bring AIAA members face–to–face with key congressional members and staff to discuss critical industry issues relevant to civil aeronautics, civil astronautics, and defense. More information on CVD can be obtained from the AIAA homepage at http://www.aiaa.org and search for CVD. To have information included in the next newsletter, please email the information to Rich Sturmfels (current Newsletter Producer) at sturmfels@airseds.com by May 15. The final content of the newsletter is at the discretion of the current TC chair.
