Hum, I would say it is just a project for graduate course. If you study the above problem with some mathematic models, e.g., development of analytical solutions based on green function and studying the characteristics with them, then I would say it might be a master degree project.

Remember use commercial software to solve heat transfer problem does not mean you are thermal expert - you should build your intuition on thermal problem with solid mathematics (I assume you are trying to get a master degree on thermal engineering).
