I understand it as "The shift of the center of the yield locus in kinematic hardening".

my two-cents contribution, hope it is not confusing:
  
"material point", a point where stresses are recovered, if the displacements at a nodal point are the primary variables, then the strains are caculated and the stresses recovered at the integration points by the material constitutive law, or say, in FE, a material point is essentially a integration point...

it sounds to me that in continuum mechanics a material point is a "material point" where stress, strain, temperature ... etc. are of interest, well in FEA, it is normally a "material point" where the material constitutive law is applied, a little too much?
