hydrostatic stress (first invariant of stress tensor) does not affect the von Mises stress, for stress-strain curve from a uniaxial test you can expect that the hydrostatic stress do not affect the "shape" of the curve, but it will affect the fracture/failure strain, if my memory serves me right, under high(compressive) hydrostatic stress(or say pressure), even marble becomes ductile! A lot of failure/frature/damage models take the effects of hydrostatic stress into account.
