My english is so poor now that I can not speak english with foreigners because i dislike the vocal exchange with others in english. Somehow, I dislike english when at times i found that chinese can also express the ideas very clearly and very tightly.
But in the years of my twenties, I have pretty good spoken english and in fact i once was the translator for a company for four years. After that period, I moonlight as a translator for a translation company for 10 years. But then, I am tired and throw away all my english in a night and only use my english knowledge in my work when it is quite unavoidable.
now, i am almost 50, the discussion on the importance of english has no meaning to me. but i like to known the feeling of others to english. that is all.
