IR. DIRK DE VIS

Speech: Maximum fuel and energy efficiency combined with optimal performance and superior driving experience: a challenge and opportunity
Abstract: Future vehicles will have to be “green” while even more then today, offer their drivers a unique driving experience.
The first part of the presentation outlines one of the technologies that bring us closer to achieving this purpose, i.e. full vehicle energy management simulation. In order to design a vehicle with minimal total power consumption – be it fuel or electricity - , all of the subsystems need to be investigated in an integrated multi-domain approach. Full vehicle energy management simulation optimizes energy efficiency digitally, saving months in developing overall strategies and tuning controls
Many of the current fuel economy-related engineering measures tend to deteriorate a vehicle’s driving experience in one or another way:  by causing drivability issues,  by generating high frequency impulsive or whine noises, …The second part of the presentation shows how LMS nevertheless realizes the combination of a green and unique driving experience through its fuel economy simulation experience and its extensive performance engineering capabilities.  Real cases addressing engine and transmission engineering, lightweight body development, chassis engineering and full vehicle integration will illustrate LMS’ competence in this area.

Wang Xue Feng   Manager of Body Performance Design Dept, Technical Development HQ, Germany Audi Company
Topic:    Functional Design Body: Use of  the progressive processes and methods to develop safe, comfortable and lightweight cars
ABSTRACT - Increasing demands made on vehicle properties driven by legislation and consumer tests in the area of passive safety, requirements in terms of noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) which have similarly become more stringent, the increasing number of customised vehicle models and fiercer competition demand an integrated and synchronised deployment of CA technologies (virtual development) in the development process, and especially a CAE-based and -driven design process during characteristic development.
The CAE-based and -driven design process enables specified functional properties of the vehicle to be ensured, taking into account costs, weight and package. Functional concepts can be drafted and evaluated in the early development phase. Conflicts in functional objectives will be detected in the course of multi-disciplinary function design, and possible solutions will be found. This characteristics-oriented design process has in the meantime become well established in Audi vehicle development. This is illustrated by the example of body development of the current Audi vehicle models.
