名词求解释：dummy node

最近看一篇文章，是用ABAQUS模拟，这里面有个dummy node不是很懂。求高手解释，谢谢。我把这个词出现的语境列一下。
1，The average strain measures are represented by degrees of freedom for dummy nodes located outside the model.
2，The reaction forces of the dummy nodes may by use of the principle of virtual work be identified as the corresponding effective stresses times the volume of the periodic cell.
3，Average stresses and strains are simply evaluated from the dummy nodes.
4，Secondly, average stresses and average strains can be evaluated from the dummy nodes, as nodal displacements and reaction forces.
PS:这篇文章主要是对一个多晶体集合进行模拟。

不过看了语境，怎么像刚体的RP呢，呵呵
