ANSYS is written in fortran, C, and C++. At the time ANSYS was written, fortran was the fastest and most portable language. As time went on, fortran and C performance were compared, and duplicate routines are available for compute intensive portions, with the appropriate version depending on the hardware platform and compiler.

Newer coding, such as DesignSpace, use C++ more extensively. The source is not available, except for selected user routines which are on the distribution media, or on a need to know basis with appropriate non-disclosure agreements signed.
