I need calculate heat tranfer coefficient for an electronic power housing. The housing outer side has complex geometry. My idea is only take this housing without inside electronic devices and define certain temperature as boundary condition, using Ansys/CFD to calculation heat transfer coefficient once for free convection and once for forced convection(airflow velocity is known. Anybody can give advice, is my idea ok, whether I missing something?!

I am really new in thermal/CFD. Many thanks!

if you only want to get average temperature on housing, you can use 10w/m2.k as free convection coefficient, and by T=P/(A*H)

P is the total power loss of electronic assembly.
A is the total outside surface area of housing
H is the heat transfer coefficient by free convection

Sorry, my problem is not using 10w/m2.k, this is too rough. In fact I want a way to calculate heat transfer coeficient in CFD/Ansys for compelx geometry shaped housing.

Many thanks!

OK, so build a big calculation cabinet and put your model in it. setting right power loss and boudary condition (outlet condition).
