My understanding is that heat generation unit is always W/m^3, no matterapply on volume, area or line.
In a 3D model, you can apply HGEN (W/m^3) in a volume, or HFLUX (W/m^2) on an area. If you apply HGEN on an area, my guess is that it will use the volume of the elements associated with the nodes of that area to calculate the overall heating power with the unit of W.
In 2D model, if you apply the HGEN on area, I believe it use the unit depth in z direction to calculate the total heating power on that area.

At least that was what I was coding with finite volume method before. |
